Residential Butler Training Course

Entry Criteria

We are selective in our student intake and only accept candidates with previous hospitality or service industry backgrounds or demonstrated applicable life experience.  

All students are required to have read and understood the Australian Butler School Student Handbook.

Entry requirements for all students

  • Completion of NSW School Certificate (or equivalent) with one year full time study or work experience in the Hospitality industry or equivalent or
  • Professional/work experience in the hospitality sector for at least two years full time or equivalent or
  • Life experience: demonstrated capacity to successfully complete the course.  Assessed on an individual basis by the Principal, applicants may be asked to submit an outline of appropriate life experience with a detailed explanation of how it relates to the requirements of hospitality training.

Entry requirements for international students

International students must demonstrate achievement of one of the following English language proficiency standards:

  • International English Language Testing System (IELTS - General) 6
  • Test of English as a foreign language (TOEFL) 550
  • Combined Universities Language Test (CULT) 60%

Student Selection Criteria

Students wishing to undertake the Residential Butler Training program and who meet admission requirements are selected using the following criteria:

  • Immaculate personal presentation
  • Proficient organisational skills
  • Capacity to work unsupervised and utilize own initiative
  • Accomplished interpersonal skills including exercise of discretion
  • Resourceful problem solving ability
  • Exceptional eye for detail
  • Computer literacy (word processing, internet, spreadsheets)

It is the policy of the Australian Butler School not to train any person under the age of 18 years.

Demonstration of Selection Criteria

To demonstrate their ability to meet the above criteria, applicants are required to provide:

  • a covering letter addressing the selection criteria
  • a curriculum vitae
  • reports from employers or supervisors and/or
  • one personal and two business references
  • a criminal history record check for Australian/New Zealand applicants wishing to be placed by Australian Butler Services.  Please contact us using the link below if you require advice on how to obtain a criminal history record check.

In addition, applicants are required to undergo face to face interview whenever possible; for applicants in remote or overseas locations a telephone or video interview will be conducted.
